so now i am psyched! i got the go ahead to do an independent study this first semester, and i am writing up a proposal to focus on mobile phone media and technologies. just what i want to get into (think, big $¥€ in japan and china) with mobile comix, photo exchange on my virtual worlds, portable games and animations…

i met one instructor at the uni, and he was pretty supportive. there won’t be a course in mobile computing as such, but there will begin this year for the undergrads a mobile media class. i met the man responsible today, totally clickked with him, and he agreed to be my second supervisor. he showed me pretty enthusiastically a couple of things, and turned me on to processing, mobile SDK, java wireless toolkit and some other relevant stuff. then he gave me the name of one provider here in hong kong who is offering sms/mms gateway services…for you lay people reading this, that means, sending sms and rich media messages on mobile phones to and from a web interface, and connecting that to my own server environment.

very cool! i can start with independent study at once, and focus on what i need to get learning. that might be unusual, they say, but i guess i got the good karma, or the good pitch. anyway, the programme head okayed it, all i got to do is write up a proposal that sounds halfway realistic, and its on.
